Olympic Gold for Cambodia with Reiterer as Trainer
After qualifying for the Olympic Asian Games late this spring, Ou Moeut Saly and Mustan Min knew the task of winning a medal for their country was in their hands. The Games are the second largest sports event in the world and are governed by the IOC. At Ancol Beach Jakarta, a new Jetski stadium hosted the action packed watersports event.
“To compete for my country at the Games is an amazing experience and huge honour. I will do the best I can to make my country proud.” explains the 23 year old Mustan Min.
The event started off moderate for the Team. Ou Moeut showing skills and speed on his Kev-Racing powered Kawasaki coming to second in the first of four Moto after a bad start. Unfortunately, his team mate had to surrender due to a technical defect, which left him with no points. It seemed, Mustan left the misfortune of his first race behind as he went on to come three times through the complete starter field to challenge his team mate for the win. In the end Mustan just fell short of a podium position. However, Ou Moeut went on to win the last three motos cruising to victory. Winning Gold in Stand Up and a Bronze Medal in his second category made him become the most successful athlete Cambodia ever produced.
“I can’t believe it. About five months ago I started to race again after a four year absence due to injury and I barely could do two laps before eventually pulling out of the race. Now I am here with a Gold and Bronze Medal around my neck. I can’t put it to words… It is a Team effort. Thanks to especially Team Flamingo for having my back, my country giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and family and friends supporting me through this journey. The last couple of months people around me supported me where they could and Kevin was pushing me to new limits and gave me a lot of confidence in the program and my abilities.” says the 25 year old double medalist of Cambodia.
“You work and live for your athletes. It’s a fine balancing act to do the best training, make them recovery quick and most important to get them into the right mental state throughout the whole process of preparation. But when the lights go off, they are on their own. That is when they have to recall everything we worked on. They have to be a 100% focused and mentally ready for whatever there is to come. Both of them had challenges to overcome this weekend and they did fantastic. It is one of the most amazing feelings to see someone achieve his dream knowing you could contribute to the success. I am very proud of them and so can they.” explains the Multi World Champion from Austria.
Cambodia, a small country in Asia, has proven a point to the rest of the World. Success only comes from daily excellence and Cambodia has just began to grow further as a Sports Nation.
The whole National Team will be received by Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh in a week from now.

Olympisches Gold für Kambodscha mit Reiterer
Das asiatische Land Kambodscha qualifizierte sich dieses Frühjahr mit Ou Moeut Saly und Mustan Min, für die asiatischen Spiele. Die Spiele sind die zweitgrößte Sportveranstaltung der Welt und unterliegen dem IOC. Am Ancol Beach in Jakarta kämpften die besten Jetskier aus Asien um olympisches Edelmetall. Reiterer, Nationaltrainer von Kambodscha und mehrfacher Jetski Weltmeister, coachte die zwei jungen Athleten. Diese wurden als Teenager in das Nachwuchsprogramm eines internationalen Rennteams aufgenommen.
“Bei den asiatischen Spielen teilnehmen zu dürfen ist die größte Ehre für mich. Ich werde alles geben um mein Land stolz zu machen”, so der 23-jährige Mustan Min.
Nach einem verpatzten Start zeigte Ou Mouet Saly seinen Speed auf seiner neuen Maschine, aufgebaut bei Kev-Racing, und holte sich den zweiten Platz hinter dem thailändischen Fahrer. Erschütternd war der erste Lauf für seinen Team Kollegen, er musste nach einer Runde das Rennen durch einen geplatzten Kühlschlauch abbrechen. Mustan Min ließ den ersten Lauf mental hinter sich und zeigte unglaublichen Speed in den restlichen Rennen. So folgten drei Zweitplatzierungen hinter seinem Landsmann. Damit schlitterte Mustan nur haarscharf an einer Medaille vorbei. Ou Mouet schreibt mit einer Gold und Bronze Medaille, aus seiner zweiten Kategorie, Geschichte.
“Ich kann es nicht glauben. Vor fünf Monaten, nach vier Jahren Verletzungspause, nahm ich an meinem ersten Rennen teil. Ich fuhr ein paar Runden und musste schlussendlich das Rennen abbrechen. Nun stehe ich hier mit einer Gold und einer Bronze Medaille für mein Land. Das Gefühl… unbeschreiblich. Dies ist ein Team Erfolg. Mein ganzes Umfeld hat so hart in den letzten Monaten gearbeitet um mich best möglichst vorzubereiten. Kevin pushte mich an meine Limits und gab mir Zuversicht mit meinem Jetski-Setup”, erzählt Ou Mouet mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht.
“Man arbeitet und lebt für seine Athleten. Es ist ein Drahtseil Akt, das richtige Training anzusetzen, sie mental in die richtige Position zu bringen und die passenden Ratschläge zu geben. Doch wenn das Rennen losgeht, sind sie auf sich alleine gestellt. Dann müssen sie ihre Leistung abrufen, Entscheidungen treffen und Mental 100% da sein. Eines der schönsten Gefühle zu sehen, wie jemand seinen Traum verwirklicht. Dafür macht sich all die harte Arbeit mehrfach bezahlt. Beide Athleten zeigten, dass sie die schnellsten Fahrer dieses Wochenendes waren. Sie können sehr stolz auf sich sein”, so Trainer und Mentor Kevin Reiterer.
Kambodscha holte sich nicht nur eine Goldmedaille sondern schrieb Sportgeschichte. Das Land wird von asiatischen Medien durch ihre überraschenden Erfolge begeistert.
Das Nationalteam wird am 3. September von König Norodom Sihamoni in Phnom Penh empfangen.
